Owner's Message
During my 28 years in education, I have served as an elementary school teacher, middle school math teacher, leader of grade teams, an adult education teacher, Staff Developer, Math Core Content Teacher, and as an Elementary School Math Coach & Middle School Instructional Coach. Currently, I am the Vice Principal of an elementary school, categorized as a Pre-K through 8th school. I am passionate about teaching and learning, and I absolutely love math! I have always been invested in helping both students and teachers embrace math, reduce their math anxiety, and enjoy the curiosity, discovery, and problem solving of mathematics. Over the years I have referred to my students as My Math Mavens, a term of math endearment. I taught them that we are all Math Mavens in our own way. In my actual classrooms, I've always arranged my student desks in PODs (small groups) because my students' math group work and discussions were going to be as rich, collaborative, engaging and as meaningful as their English Language Arts or Science group work and discussions. The value of students questioning one another, supporting one another, and learning from one another is powerful, and increases depth of knowledge.
I started My Math Maven, LLC for students who need consistent, more individualized support or enrichment, or who want or need more of a challenge in mathematics, for parents to avoid the pricey $50-$125 an hour math tutoring, and for highly qualified math teachers, who passionately teach or have taught math full time, Monday-Friday, in classrooms around the country, and who would like to spend some of their off time, during the weekends and/or summer time, continuing to support students growth and learning in math.

As a former fulltime teacher, who taught middle school math during Covid-19, while my youngest son was in high school (now a college student), I literally spent nearly 2 -years teaching Virtually, from home, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while trying to support my youngest son, through his virtual learning experience. I personally know that virtual teaching and learning was tough for students, parents, and teachers during that time. Why? Because although we adapted, like superheroes, to this unprecedented, unexpected change in our world, in order to be safe, it was still just too much. Ideally, elementary to high school students should not be receiving the bulk of their core academic instruction, 3-5 hours every day of the week, through virtual learning, like they had to during Covid-19. It's just not healthy or productive, especially when the world literally felt like it was falling apart. Which is why, I am truly happy to be back in the school building teaching, coaching, and leading each day!

With that said, there are many aspects of virtual learning and instruction that are valuable. I designed My Math Maven, LLC to provide affordable, core math instructional tutoring, the way virtual learning should be utilized, which is, as an additional support, with a healthy number of hours each week, and very small class sizes, that take place during students' and teachers' off times (The Weekends and/ Summer!). During the fall-winter-spring sessions, students also receive free, optional, weekday office hours, as an added bonus to their Saturday classes, each week. The Touch-Base-Tuesdays office hours are available for students to check-in for math homework help, math test prep, problem of the week (POW!), extra math practice, clarifying questions, and more. This Instructional tutoring program provides an effective virtual learning experience! Due to it's affordability, the program is sustainable for parents and can literally grow with your child. I'd love to have your child become a My Math Maven, LLC student!
